I researched a grind and brew coffee maker for 3 months before purchasing this one. I'm thrilled with it. I used to work at prominent kitchenware store and didn't hear good customer reviews about the Cusineart Grind and Brew and the Capresso.... The Melitta makes a great cup of coffee, it's easy to use, grinds the beans quickly and you get your choice of course to super fine. The only programing is easy as is the clean up...no hassle which was important to me. The only thing I have noticed is that you need to use more scoops of beans than specified. (I make 4 cups each morning and use about 3 scoops of beans for strong coffee)...

Rating: - A fine product for the price!
I am well satisfied with this product. It makes delicious coffee and I enjoy not having to mill the beans separately from the brewing process. I shopped around for a grinder/brewer for quite some time, and finally gave up when it was apparent that I would have to spend upwards of $140 for a decent machine. Thus, it was a pleasant surprise when I found this affordable unit.

Yes, there are some parts that are plastic - given the price, I would expect them to be, and people will have to take a bit of caution with them. But the Melitta Mill & Brew is very easy to clean - and it reassembles in seconds. It is very easy to see the water fill-line (my complaint of a previous coffeemaker)and looks very esthetically pleasing, not taking up a lot of counter space.

I was also pleased with Amazon's service - when the first carafe broke the very first time I ran water through it they sent me another entire unit very quickly (and a postage paid label to return the first).

The only less-than-perfect thing about the Melitta is I haven't learned how to program in a delayed start time yet (this may be a "nut-behind-the-wheel" problem!).

(BTW, I use one scoop - provided - of beans for each two cup levels on the machine; a moderately strong brew.)

Rating: - Decent Machine, OK Tastes, Will Break
I've bought 2 of these machines (one was a gift) and only regret the second purchase. Being a techno-nerd, the ability to grind the coffee just moments before brewing seemed pretty neat. It was. But that's about it. Here's what I experienced:<br /> 1. As others mentioned, the capacity was about 1/2 of that advertised. I'd have to fill it up to the "6" cup mark just to get a little over 3 cups of coffee.<br /> 2. The flavor was only so-so and I'm not coffee expert.<br /> 3. It breaks. About 16 months after purchase, it just stopped brewing on me. I didn't experience the little plastic thingy breakoff as so many others have, but mine would grind, percolate, but no water would move. Neat, eh? I get all the sounds and none of the coffee.<br /> 4. Very poor customer service. When I wrote them concerning the issue, my first email went unnoticed. They only responded to my second one with:<br /> "Dear Melitta Customer,<br /> <br /> Thank you for contacting Melitta.<br /> <br /> We are sorry to hear of the problem you are experiencing with your Mill & Brew.<br /> We ask that you kindly contact our manufacturing partner, Salton directly at 1-800-233-9054 concerning this problem.<br /> <br /> If we could be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at 1-888-MELITTA or online at www.melitta.com."<br /> <br /> Great, eh?<br /> <br /> Only buy this machine for a new college student who will not need it in a year and doesn't care too much about the taste of their coffee.
