I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS IN A SHAKER WITHOUT TESTING IT FIRST. THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL WHICH IS THE "SALT" SHAKER AND WHICH ONE IS FOR "PEPPER. THEY ARE ATTRACTIVE SITTING ON THE COUNTER OR TABLE.

Do this:

Take a steak. A NICE steak. (Flank cut on the bias has nice flavor, mignon is tender but not to much flavor, porterhouse has a mignon section and nice tastier bit) Cut it in two (if you use the porterhouse use a bit of from both sides of the bone to be fair). Sprinkle one with salt and fresh ground pepper. Go ahead. Make it gooooood. Now! Take the other half and sprinkle it with KOSHER salt and fresh ground pepper. Why? Because you're Jewish? To support Isreal? No! Because it is COARSE. Grill them. RARE. Ok, medium if you must. If you prefer well done, then look up "Milwaukee Sawzall". Now taste! Ah! Good, no? Get this salt and pepper grinder set, it will grind some wonderful coarse pepper AND salt for you all the time for ALL your food. Regular salt tastes like you poured saltwater on your food. Coarse ground salt gives a wonderful flavor, like nothing else. For a more sophisticated palate try it on broccoli rabe with garlic and red pepper flakes. AAAAAAaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh...........

- Finally, a pepper mill that works
We have been though a half a dozen pepper mills and none of them have worked well. The William Bounds is an excellent design that easily and thoroughly grinds the corns using a mill mechanism that is quite different than most. There is no metal on metal grinding and it doesn't jam up like many. It also has a clever mechanism for easily setting the "fineness" of the grind. It goes without saying that a handle is a must for a pepper mill. If I had anything negative to say, it would be that it is a bit small, though adequate (I think William Bounds has larger models). Look no farther for a mill that works!
