we had the older model for several years and were happy with it until the temp gauge stopped working, so purchased this as a replacement. <br /> <br /> The toast button quit working after just a few months. If I jab it hard for ten times or so, sometimes it will work. The temperature dial is difficult to convince that is it truly OFF. We now leave the door open all the time when not in use to try to keep it from coming on accidentally. There is a REASON this is a "classic". I have looked at stores all over my area and do not find a B&D under the counter model on the shelves any more at all. I believe they are gradually being taken off the market, and I say good riddance.

Rating: - Great Buy!
This toaster is great,it does exactly what is predicted. It toasts evenly and quickly, and is one of the few toaster ovens left with a start button and not a timer. Definately worth the money, especially if you are just using it for poptarts and waffles.

Rating: - Scary malfunctions
I had the same oven a generation older, but same functions/setup. It TURNED ON BY ITSELF! The oven portion (where you set the temp - not the toast) seemed to be the problem. While the gauge was at "off" setting the oven was not only "on", but seemingly at the highest heat possible. Luckily I was home at the time, walked into the dark kitchen and freaked when I saw the oven glowing red. I think it was a short because I flicked the dial and it buzzed and then went off.
