My previous coffee maker (melitta) quit working after 11 months, leaving me quite dissapointed. I researched coffee makers within my price range for quite a while, and this one was one of my favorites. Now that I've purchased it, I absolutely love it. I just love the coffee it makes. I find it to be very fast and very hot. I love the options of brewing into one cup, two, or into the carafe. The filter, I could care less about. I have good water, so that doesn't make a difference to me, but it's nice to have anyway. My husband, who only used to drink coffee occasionally, has started drinking regularly with me because of the great coffee it brews, and how fast it is. I can see how some people may have a problem with the carafe lid, but like anything else, you just have to get acquianted with it. The travel mugs are great for me as I'm driving, or traveling around the house. I prefer coffee at a temperature that is plenty hot, but still under the boiling point and with this unit I still have to let each cup cool before I can drink it. I fill my maker, with the sprayer directly from my sink, and the markings are perfect for making 1 cup,2 or the whole carafe. I don't have any problems with filling the unit or anything else so far, and would definately reccomend it to my friends.

Rating: - The taste and smell can be fixed eaisly!
If your unit has an orange rubber tube in the water reservoir, replace it. The orange hose stinks bad, it can be removed very easily, just pull it off on both ends and take it to your local hardware store and find some flexible clear tubing the same size and install it. This takes care of the stinking bad taste. I love this coffee maker now that I replaced the tube. Good luck!!

Not sure what some of the other reviewers are talking about- I have had great luck with this coffee pot. I have had no trouble unscrewing the lid, coffee tastes good, doesn't drip as long as you wait until it shuts off. I turn it on in the morning before I get into the shower, and it is ready when I am out. I do not pre heat the pot, but the coffee stays hot all day.

I really like this pot. I am getting ready to buy one for my mom.
